Machias delays decision on where to put Down East vocational center, risking $2M grant

Despite a tense, three-hour meeting Thursday night, a group of school districts in western and central Washington County still cannot agree on which property they should acquire and renovate into a high school vocational center. The districts risk losing a $2 million state grant if they cannot agree by the end of March.

Members of the Machias School Committee told other area school officials Thursday that they want more time to think about it. They said they plan to meet Monday and expect to make up their minds by that evening.

Omar Holding Secret Fundraisers With Islamic Groups Tied to Terror

Democratic freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) has been holding a series of secret fundraisers with groups that have been tied to the support of terrorism, appearances that have been closed to the press and hidden from public view.

The content of these speeches, given to predominately Muslim audiences, remains unknown, prompting some of Omar’s critics to express concern about the type of rhetoric she is using before these paying audiences, particularly in light of the lawmaker’s repeated use of anti-Semitic tropes in public.

Democrats Introduce $100 Million ‘End Diaper Need’ Act

Two Democratic congresswomen on Thursday introduced the “End Diaper Need Act of 2019”, a bill they say “would create a $100 million demonstration program for distributing free diapers and diapering products in states, communities, and nonprofits around the nation to help reduce the diaper need in low-income families and underserved communities.”

Representatives Barbara Lee from California and Rosa DeLauro from Connecticut are the sponsors.
