Small quake shakes inland Southern California area

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - Some inland Southern California communities received an early morning jolt from a minor earthquake.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-3.4 tremor occurred at 5:44 a.m. Thursday.

The quake was centered 2 miles (3 kilometers) southwest of San Bernardino at a depth of about 9 miles (15 kilometers).

British and French planes scrambled to shadow Russian jets: source

LONDON (Reuters) – British and French military jets were scrambled to investigate suspected Russian fighter aircraft flying over the North Sea, a British source said on Thursday.

The Royal Air Force (RAF) declined to comment on ongoing military operations.

U.S. judge rules for Colorado ‘intersex’ veteran denied passport

(Reuters) – A federal court has ruled the U.S. State Department cannot deny a passport to a Navy veteran who is intersex and identifies as neither male nor female.

Navy veteran Dana Zzyym, a Colorado resident born in 1958 with ambiguous sex characteristics, sued the federal government for refusing to issue a passport because it requires an applicant to denote either male or female on applications.
