God’s glory is a profound and central theme throughout the Bible. It refers to the manifestation of God’s holiness, greatness, beauty, and worth—His divine nature displayed in such a way that it evokes awe, worship, and reverence. In Hebrew, the word often used is kavod (כָּבוֹד), meaning "weight" or "heaviness," symbolizing importance or splendor. In Greek, the word is doxa (δόξα), meaning "honor" or "renown."
What Does God’s Glory Mean?
In relation to God, glory is both:
- Intrinsic: God's glory is part of His very being. He is glorious in essence—His character, power, holiness, and love are inherently glorious.
- Revealed: God’s glory is also something that can be seen, experienced, or made known—revealed to creation.
God’s glory is not just about brightness or majesty (though those often accompany it), but about His presence and perfection revealed in the world and especially in redemption.
