The God of stars remembers your name.
"Psalm 8" is the interlude moment on the album, Glory. It opens and closes with an exclamation of God’s majestic name filling the earth. Between those bookends, David reflects on the paradox of God's glory in the vastness of creation and His care for humanity. Despite our smallness, we have been crowned with glory and entrusted with dominion over creation. This psalm celebrates both God's transcendence and His tender involvement in our lives.
Lyrics
Refrain
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Verse
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
Verse
You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

Devotional Reflection
When we stand beneath a night sky scattered with stars, we are brought face-to-face with the vastness of creation—and the even greater glory of the One who spoke it into being. In Psalm 8, David marvels that the God who set the heavens in place would also care so deeply for humanity. This psalm anchors our worship in wonder: the majesty of God is not distant, but deeply personal. He crowns the seemingly insignificant with glory and honor. The God of galaxies is also the God who knows your name.
This passage calls us to worship, not merely with words but with awe, humility, and gratitude. It invites us to see ourselves not as forgotten specks in the universe but as beloved stewards in God's glorious creation.
