With Track 3: “Joseph Had a Dream” on the album, Genesis Jubilee, we step into the heart of Old Testament storytelling—betrayal, suffering, and providence through pain. This track is a turning point: still upbeat, but with emotional depth and dramatic tension. It’s an anthem for the misunderstood, the falsely accused, the exiled—and it prophetically echoes Jesus Himself.

Devotional Reflection

Joseph had a dream—but the dream didn’t go the way he expected. He was betrayed by his brothers, thrown into a pit, sold as a slave, falsely accused, forgotten in prison… and yet, God was there in every place.

Joseph’s life is a mirror of Christ’s: beloved by the Father, rejected by his own, unjustly punished, exalted to save the very ones who hurt him. His story says to us: Your pain is not wasted. Your journey has purpose. God is weaving mercy through it all.

When we sing this song, we’re not just honoring Joseph. We’re preaching the gospel hidden in his life: There is a Rescuer risen from the pit. And He still wears the scars of our betrayal.

Lyrics

Verse 1
Joseph had a dream when he was seventeen
Told his brothers what he saw—made 'em mad and mean
A coat of many colors and a favor on his life
But jealousy will cut you like a thief in the night

Pre-Chorus
They tore that coat and dug that hole
But they couldn’t bury God’s control

Chorus
Oh, Joseph had a dream, and the dream still lived
Though the road went low, and the nights got dim
What the enemy meant for harm, the Lord redeemed
So keep holdin’ on—if Joseph had a dream, so can we

Verse 2
Sold off in a caravan, a slave in a foreign land
Still he served with faithful hands, rose up by God’s plan
But lies will lock you in a cage when truth gets pushed aside
And Joseph sat in prison with the pain he couldn’t hide

Pre-Chorus
Forgotten there—but not by grace
God was writing rescue into place

Chorus
Oh, Joseph had a dream, and the dream still breathed
Even when the world said, “Just concede.”
In the silence, God was setting justice free
Don’t give up yet—if Joseph had a dream, so can we

Verse 3
Years went by, the famine came
Pharaoh called the prisoner’s name
From pit to palace in a day
He fed the ones who sold him away

Pre-Chorus
And when they bowed, afraid to speak
He said, “What you meant for harm, God made sweet.”

Chorus
Oh, Joseph had a dream, and the dream came true
Every trial was a thread God pulled through
You meant to break me, but He built me
With mercy deeper than the sea
If Joseph had a dream, then I believe

Verse 4
There's another Son sent down below
Rejected by His kin, left alone
They stripped His robe and sealed His tomb
But on the third day, joy broke through

Bridge
If you’re in a prison, if you’ve been betrayed
If the dream’s gone silent, but you still pray
Don’t let go, He’s not done yet—
Your story’s not over, it just ain't been read

Outro
Joseph had a dream... and so did the Christ
Both laid low, both rose to life
So hold on, dreamer, through the pain
The God who saved Joseph still reigns
