Criminal justice support group coming to Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Public Defender’s Office in Dayton is partnering with Families of Addicts (FOA) to hold meetings about a “powerful new model of reforming public defense and challenging mass incarceration: Participatory Defense.”

According to the Public Defender’s office, Participatory Defense is a support group designed to provide legal resources and education to those facing criminal charges, their families, and their communities.

Body of missing woman found at Buck Creek State Park

BUCK CREEK STATE PARK, Ohio (WDTN) – The body of a missing Dayton woman was found in the same lake where her husband’s vehicle was found submerged on Thursday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed the discovery of the body around 3 pm. The Coroner later confirmed the identity of that body as Latricia Bass-Jefferies.

Driver injured after car crashes into pole in Yellow Springs

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) – The driver in a single-car crash was injured after crashing into a pole in Yellow Springs, authorities said.

The crash happened just before 4 am Friday on State Route 343 between Yellow Springs and Clifton. The pole was damaged, causing residents in area to temporarily lose power. DP&L was called to restore the power.

Injuries to the driver were minor, officials on scene said.

U.S. 35 EB reopens after early morning crash

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – An early morning crash temporarily shut down U.S. 35 eastbound, east of I-675.

The crash happened just before 8 am on U.S. 35 near Research Rd. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. As of 8:20 am, one lane had reopened.

Lawsuit filed against roofing contractor for allegedly ripping off tornado victims

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Montgomery County roofing contractor
is being taken to court by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for allegedly cheating
homeowners out of thousands of dollars. Some of these incidents occurred in the
wake of the Memorial Day tornadoes.

Brandon Valandingham owns Buckeye Storm Solutions LLC, and is accused of performing shoddy work and failing to deliver services or refunds after accepting down payments from customers.

SWAT team responds to Xenia neighborhood

XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – A SWAT team was called to a Xenia neighborhood Thursday night as police attempted to serve a warrant.

Several agencies including Xenia Police, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, and Xenia Fire and EMS responded to the area of East Church Street.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office tells us the SWAT situation evolved from serving a warrant earlier in the day. They did not disclose any details surrounding the warrant.

Opening arguments continue in impeachment trial

WASHINGTON (WDTN) – House managers continued Thursday to
present their case in the impeachment trial of President Trump. Dr. Mark Caleb
Smith, Director of Political Studies at Cedarville University, joined 2 NEWS to discuss.

Thus far, not a lot of new information has been presented by
the House managers, echoing what people heard during the hearings.
