One person shot near Grandview Medical Center

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man was injured after a shooting near the entrance of Grandview Medical Center Saturday afternoon.

According to regional dispatch the call came in just before 4:00. Witnesses reported hearing shots fired and seeing a dark-colored vehicle speed away.

Dayton police say one man was shot and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

Mamma DiSalvo’s temporarily closes after positive COVID-19 test

Mamma DiSalvo’s announced Saturday that it would be closed until at least Aug. 19 after someone tested positive for COVID-19.

The Italian restaurant did not clarify who tested positive or that persons condition.

A spokesperson for the restaurant posted to Facebook saying that the restaurant will continue following safety protocols while closed. A professional cleaning company will be brought in to thoroughly sanitize prior to reopening.

Springboro Police need help finding missing teen

SPRINGBORO, Ohio (WDTN) — Springboro Police are asking for the community’s help finding a 15-year-old named Treshaun Smythe who has been missing since July 30.

Smythe is described as being white, with blue eyes and brown hair. He’s around 5’9″ and roughly 113 lbs. Police do not know what clothing he is wearing but they believe he could be riding an orange and black BMX-style bicycle.

Authorities said that Smythe is likely to be somewhere in Middletown or West Chester.

UD students start moving back to campus with added COVID-19 precautions

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — University of Dayton students can start moving back to campus Saturday, Aug. 8, but the college plans to stretch the window for moving until Aug. 23.

Students moving to campus for the 2020-21 school year were required to reserve a time slot to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Reservations could be made as early as July 7.

The university’s website says that approximately 460 students will move in or complete their check-in process each day over the 16-day period.

1 hospitalized after 2 car accident on Germantown Street

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Police were sent to the scene of a crash that resulted in one hospitalization on Germantown Street early Saturday morning.

Montgomery County Regional Dispatch said that the accident happened around midnight and that two cars were involved. One person was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, their condition is currently unknown.

2 NEWS was on the scene and saw one car that appeared to have been hit on the drivers-side by another car, which was in the grass.

OHSAA plans for shortened 2020 season if DeWine approves football

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) – The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced Friday that if high school football games are approved by the Governor, all teams will enter the playoffs beginning October 9 and the state championship games will be played no later than November 21.

SICSA adjusts adoption process as pandemic continues

WASHINGTON TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – 2020 began with a brand new space for the folks at SICSA. Shortly after opening to the public at their new Washington Church Road location in February, the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Jessie Sullivan, the director of adoption, says the shelter was never forced to fully shut down, but like many other businesses and non-profits, they had to change the adoption process.
