“What the Law Could Not Do”
(Romans 8:3–4 inspired title)
Track 1 – Invitational
Verse 1
The law was given from Sinai’s flame,
Carved in stone by the finger of God.
It thundered truth with a holy name,
Demanding life from hearts of sod.
But what it showed, we could not be—
It marked our chains, but could not free.
Verse 2
The law is holy, just, and good,
A mirror of the Lord Most High.
It taught us how we ought to live,
And told us what would make us die.
Its righteous hand could only prove
That sin still stirs where rules can't move.
Chorus
But what the law could never do,
Love came down and carried through.
The wrath we earned, He bore instead—
The curse fell on His thorn-crowned head.
Now righteousness is not our own—
It’s Christ alone. It’s Christ alone.
Verse 3
We died to law through Christ our Lord,
Now raised to live by Spirit breath.
Not slaves who fear the judge’s sword,
But sons and daughters born from death.
He writes His will upon our hearts—
Obedience now from love can start.
Chorus
What the law could never do,
Love came down and carried through.
The wrath we earned, He bore instead—
The curse fell on His thorn-crowned head.
Now righteousness is not our own—
It’s Christ alone. It’s Christ alone.
Bridge
O Law, you led me to despair—
I could not climb, I could not stand.
But grace reached down and met me there,
With wounds that bled from mercy’s hand.
Final Chorus
For what the law could never do,
The Son of God has done for you!
From Sinai’s fire to Calv’ry’s hill—
He met the law and met it still.
Now hearts of stone are flesh and free—
His law fulfilled in you and me.
