Track 2 – Commandment I
The Fear That Frees
Track 2 – Commandment I
Lyrics
Verse 1
Before the winds shaped sky and sea,
Before the stars began to shine,
The Lord was all, and all was He—
The Source, the End, the Great Design.
He speaks, and mountains bow in flame—
Yet bids us call upon His name.
Verse 2
We chase the gods our hands can hold,
Of power, pleasure, pride, or gold.
But every idol’s promise fades—
They take our hearts, then rot and break.
We sell our souls for what won’t last,
While mercy waits to draw us back.
Chorus
You shall have no other gods—
Not fear, not fame, not love misplaced.
You were not made to serve what robs,
But to behold the Father's face.
The fear of God is not despair—
It’s awe that draws, and love that dares.
The fear of God is where we’re free—
To worship Him, and only He.
Verse 3
Augustine wrote, our hearts won’t rest
Until they find their home in Thee.
Luther saw the truest test:
What do you trust when fear runs deep?
To worship God is to be whole—
For He alone can bear your soul.
Bridge (instrumental drop, slow build)
Break every chain, O jealous flame,
Consume the thrones my heart has made.
Unseat the lies that rule in me—
And reign, O Lord, in majesty.
Final Chorus
You shall have no other gods—
Let lesser loves be crucified.
For only One was raised for us,
The crucified, the glorified.
The fear of God is not to flee—
It’s where we kneel, and where we see:
To worship Him is to be free.
To worship Him is to be free.
Outro
To worship Him is to be free.
To worship Him is to be free.
To worship Him is to be free.
To worship Him is to be free.
The fear of God is not to flee—
It’s where we kneel, and where we see:
To worship Him is to be free.
To worship Him is to be free.
