Snowstorm batters parts of Midwest

A wintry storm is battering much of the Midwest early Monday, bringing blizzard-like conditions that have grounded hundreds of flights and closed major highways at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Chicago Department of Aviation reported early Monday that average departure delays at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport are 77 minutes, and the flight-tracking website FlightAware reported that more than 350 flights headed to or from the U.S. were canceled.

Freezing rain brings potential for slick roads across Maine

The National Weather Service is warning Mainers to travel with caution Sunday as light freezing rain moves across the state, bringing with it the potential for slick road conditions.

With the exception of the immediate coastline and York County, the National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory across the state for the majority of the day on Sunday.

While the precipitation will be light, it could be enough to cause slippery conditions in affected regions.

Arctic front brings record cold to parts of Maine on Thanksgiving

Three Maine cities awoke to record cold temperatures today as an Arctic front from Canada pushed frigid air across the state, lowering temperatures 30 degrees below normal for Nov. 22.

The air temperature in Bangor Thursday morning was 5 degrees above zero, breaking the previous record in the Queen City on this date of 11 degrees above zero in 1978, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou. With wind chill, the temperature was minus 10 degrees.

Sunday snow could snarl travel

A powerful area of low pressure will track across KAKEland on Sunday. This system will bring a mixture of precipitation to KAKEland along with plenty of cold and snow on what is expected to be a major travel day. A stiff south wind on Saturday will help push highs back into the low to middle 60s across KAKEland.
