Air Pollution Advisories in place across Miami Valley

MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WDTN) – Air Pollution Advisories are in
place for Clark, Greene, Darke, Miami, Montgomery, and Preble counties for
Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting conditions that
are conducive for the formation of ground-level ozone (smog) and may lead to
elevated air pollution levels.

Maine stares down high temperatures this weekend

Things are looking hot this weekend, as temperatures in southern Maine could top 100 degrees on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A warm front will move through early Friday, resulting in warmer and muggier weather. Temperatures will be in the low 80s during the day with chances of afternoon storms in the western part of the state, according to the weather service.

Science behind the upcoming heat wave

With heat indices expected to rise between 100 and 110 over the next several days, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the entire Miami Valley from 2 PM this evening through 8 PM Saturday.

The upcoming heat will be the result of an area of high pressure located to our south. High pressure can help generate extremely hot temperatures in two ways.

Excessive Heat Watch issued, health officials warn of dangers

MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WDTN) – The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Friday and Saturday because heat index values will hit triple digits, and can affect your health.

Dr. Jeremy Moore, an emergency medicine physician at Miami Valley Hospital said those 4-years-old and younger and those over 65-years-old are most at risk for heat issues, but everyone should take extra precautions.

It wasn’t until Brian Daniels heard yelling from eight floors below him that he realized something was wrong.

He and his wife had been drinking coffee on their hotel balcony Sunday in Panama City Beach, Florida, savoring a few minutes of quiet before their sons woke, when they heard the alert. Sheriff’s officers ordered all swimmers to get out of the water. Rip currents from Tropical Storm Barry had made the surf perilous, and no one was allowed in past their ankles.

4:00 pm: A line of showers extending from Lima down through the Dayton area are making their way east. More waves of rain will continue to pass through this evening.

Heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts could create hazards for drivers this evening, but ultimately the risk of severe weather remains low.
