Official: Police chief's rental units held drugs, firearms

LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) - An investigation found that a police chief in North Carolina had rental units holding images of nude women, narcotics and firearms.

A Robeson County District Attorney’s Office release says Red Springs Police Chief Ronnie Patterson’s units were auctioned off for nonpayment and found to also have a file detailing a sexual harassment allegation against him.

Man denies escaping, re-entering prison with illicit items

WARTBURG, Tenn. (AP) - An inmate denies escaping a Tennessee prison and returning with contraband to sell on the prison’s black market.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports 37-year-old Robert Fusco pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the allegations. An indictment says Fusco is among eight people, including two former correctional officers, who were indicted this month in the scheme.

Developers say Mountain Valley Pipeline to now cost $4.6B

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Developers of a natural gas pipeline set to run through West Virginia and Virginia say the project’s cost has risen from $3.7 billion to $4.6 billion.

The Roanoke Times reports Mountain Valley Pipeline developers released the revised cost estimate Monday.

A Mountain Valley statement says about half of the increase is due to a construction lull last month.

Deported sex offender arrested near Arizona-Mexico border

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Border Patrol agents say a convicted sex offender deported from California has been caught in Arizona.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials say 30-year-old Cesar Vargas-Ordaz, a Mexican national, was arrested Tuesday near Ajo.

Agents processing Vargas-Ordaz learned he was convicted in 2015 of sex with a minor under the age of 16 in Santa Clara, California.
