Obama Honors King on Anniversary of Assassination: Progress Doesn’t Come Without ‘Setbacks and Defeats’

Former President Barack Obama honored the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., on the 50th anniversary of his assassination Wednesday, saying it was important to remember that progress doesn’t come without “setbacks and defeats” and “for every two steps forward, we often take a step back.”

Obama recorded a video message for a ceremony in Memphis, Tennesseen, where King was shot and killed on April 4, 1968, praising King’s vision and imagination as a basis for the country’s racial progress.

Trump Officials Outline Plan to Send Military to the Border

The Trump administration provided a rough outline of a plan to deploy National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to help border agents confront a rise in illegal immigrant crossings from Central America until Congress takes steps to curb them.

National Guard troops will operate in supportive roles focused on surveillance, vehicle maintenance, border wall repair, and a number of other duties to allow for more border agents to work on “frontline apprehension roles,” an administration official told reporters on a Wednesday conference call.

NFL Player May Have Helped Prevent School Shooting

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman helped pursue the source of a threatening social media post, potentially helping to foil a planned school shooting in Michigan.

Edelman was notified via direct message on Instagram that a disturbing comment was left on his page. ”Dude, there is a kid in your comment section says he s going to shoot up a school, i think you should alert the authority,” the message said.

DHS Secretary: Trump Is ‘Frustrated’ With State of Border Security

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said President Donald Trump was “frustrated” with the state of border security Wednesday and took that part of his job “very seriously.”

Nielsen appeared at the White House press briefing to discuss the White House’s announcement that it would work with governors in deploying National Guard troops to the southern border and assist patrol agents in halting illegal immigration.

Two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Tuesday castigated former FBI director James Comey ahead of his book tour by once again blaming him for her election loss in 2016.

Clinton participated in a panel at an event hosted by The Wing, a club for millennial women, in New York. Her shots at Comey were conveniently timed ahead of the April 17 release of his new book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.
