Connect to Previous Version Database Using SQLAnywhere

Using Sybase Central, version 11, I was getting this

[Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Unable to start specified database: 
'C:\Users\mbelor\Desktop\francisco.db' was created by a different version of the software
        Error code=-1005
        SQL state=08001
 
Connection parameters:
        User=
        Password=***
        DBF=C:\Users\mbelor\Desktop\francisco.db

when trying to connect to a version 9 database.

This response means you must upgrade the database. But do not try to do so using the Tools / Upgrade menu. It won’t work. Because you must be connected to the database first.
